ABOUT US AND OUR KENNEL

Maple-Oak Kennels has been involved with beagles since 2002.  We started out buying our first beagle (Rascal) when he was just 8 weeks old from a breeder in London, ON after we lost our 11 year old Labrador Retriever, Shiloh.   We decided another Lab would be too hard on us emotionally and that's why we chose a beagle. We wanted a smaller dog but with a similar easy going temperament that we could go out in the bush and hunt with but also be a house pet, but we found much more in Rascal.  We fell in love with this little male beagle immediately.   He was affectionate, intelligent, easy to potty train and he was everything we wanted.  Through our relationship with the breeder at the time, we became involved in the local beagle clubs and the Field Trial competitions when Rascal was old enough to compete, first in the Puppy Trials then when he was 2 years old he was able to compete in his first Small Pack Field Trial and won a 2nd place ribbon and his first points toward becoming a Small Pack Field Trial Champion.  Over the years since we first acquired Rascal we ended up purchasing more beagles and this is how our breeding program started and expanded to what it is today.  We show some of our beagles under the heading "Our Beagles" and some of those beagles have won many trial ribbons and trophies and as they say, the rest is history!  We also became more involved in the study of pedigrees, genetic backgrounds and different beagle traits, size, health issues and more which made us very aware of what bloodlines to stay away from and what bloodlines we wanted to continue in our kennel  which brings us to the breeding stock and breeding practices we have in place today.

Our  Beagle kennel is a modern up-scale operation.   We have a very strict breeding program of breeding only the "Best to the Best"  to produce puppies that anyone would like to own and also to improve the breed.  Our Beagle kennel has a climate controlled radiant heating system for even heating and comfort for our beagles in the winter months.  We clean and disinfect our kennels, puppy play pens and whelping area daily.   We have separate whelping areas in our beagle building specifically designed to accommodate the birthing and raising of puppies.   Our adult beagles can go outside into individual dog run areas through automatic doors when they want some fresh air and excercise.  We also take young and adult beagles out in groups on certain days, rotating them so they all get a chance to get out into the many Conservation bush areas around our property.  This help keeps them in shape and gives them a bit of adventure. We keep 2 or 3 beagles together in each large dog area, both inside and outside so they have plenty of room to play with each other and each indoor kennel area has a large dog box or dog house as beagles like to curl up close to each other when they are resting or sleeping.

Maple-Oak Kennels restricts visitation to our beagle kennel and especially to our puppies in order to help protect them and our beagle kennel from outside parasites and viruses that could be brought in unknowingly on peoples clothing. The Maple-Oak Kennel staff go through a daily routine of disinfecting and cleaning  and taking specific precautions when they move around from building to building to help keep the puppies and our kennels free from any cross-contamination.

Our beagles are bred for comformation, intelligence, friendliness, ability to adapt to any lifestyle and we take great pride in the puppies we produce mainly for the family pet.
